Maggie He, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor

Maggie is a chemist with expertise in organic and materials chemistry. She grew up in the culturally diverse New York City and went to the City College of New York for her undergraduate study. Maggie participated in undergraduate research in the group of Prof. Barbara Zajc and worked on the synthesis of (alpha-fluoro)vinyl sulfones using Julia olefination. She went to the University of Pennsylvania for her Master’s degree and joined Prof. Jeffrey Bode’s group for graduate research. In 2010, Maggie moved with the Bode group to ETH Zürich and obtained her Ph.D. degree there. During her graduate studies, Maggie worked on the synthesis, properties, and applications of bullvalene-based shapeshifting molecules. After her Ph.D., Maggie was a Swiss National Science Foundation postdoctoral fellow in Prof. Timothy Swager’s group at MIT and worked on the functionalization of carbon nanomaterials and development of sensors. Maggie joined the University of Arkansas as an assistant professor in Fall 2019 and she is excited to lead her research program in functional materials and sensors.
